Time Is
by Henry Van Dyke
Time is Too Slow for those who Wait,Too Swift for those who Fear,Too Long for those who Grieve,Too Short for those who Rejoice; But for those who Love,Time is not.

ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you and Claire (who is Claire? Lovely name!) and all prosperity and love to you in 2010!
ReplyDeleteOkay, please bear with me a moment while I tell you a startling truth about myself. I promise, I'll bring it around to this post in the end! I have always been a fan of the old bay area "acid rock" bands such as Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother @ The Holding Company, Quicksilver Messenger Service and the like. One of my favorite groups ever was another, slightly lesser known band called It's A Beautiful Day, whose best known song was "White Bird." Anyway, David LaFlamme, who along with his wife founded the band, wrote a song called "Time Is." I've always liked it, with it's ticking-clock beat and it's simple but wise words:
"Time is too slow for those who wait/ and time is too swift for those who fear/ Time is too long for those who grieve/ and time is too short for those that laugh.../ But for those who love, time is eternity."
I just looked, and he gave no writing credit to Mister Van Dyke, the scoundrel. This is the first I've heard of it. If I see David Laflamme, I am kicking him squarely in the shins.
Beautiful images and beautiful thoughts, from such a romantic spirit. I wish you the most magnificent 2010, Simone!!! I truly do. Warmest regards from me to you.
