And other splendid things.
John Collier's Lady Godiva
Oh I love thee
I see now you were fine until I tried to fix you
Suturing your orifices without anaesthetic
Insisting you haemorrhage to appease my vanity
Vulnerable and wounded you escape in the dead of night with want for safe shore
I let you go for I know you won’t make it far with your injuries
Your blood is in the water and the piranhas are ravenous
For what it is worth, I love you,
Simone
Beautiful painting. I have kidded every year at Halloween that I was going as Lady Godiva. When I take my hair down it goes to just below my knees. Oh, but I'm never going to really do it.

The horse so bold; she so shy. Oh to have been on the street that day!

ReplyDeletewow. that's some poetry. and a striking painting. good post, simone.
ReplyDeleteI like the Romanesque architecture - we could have seen more of it if Collier had waited for the bloody horse to get out of the way.
ReplyDeleteYour blood is in the water and the piranhas are ravenous...
ReplyDelete*so beautiful*
The poem could be about so many things - lots of layers in that one!
ReplyDeleteLove the painting too :)
"Your blood is in the water and the piranhas are ravenous "
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this line!
So many layers, so many meanings. Very thought provoking. And to echo everyone else:
